“I seriously question myself why I am doing this, the training is hard and you have to punch people and be punched!” Said Ruth Ross, one of the senior managers at Shropshire Chamber.
Ruth is taking part in an Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB) event on Saturday March 30 at, The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury.
UWCB is a unique opportunity for people with no boxing experience to experience the wonderful world of boxing, in an enjoyable environment whilst raising money for Cancer Research UK.
On asking Ruth why she was training hard and taking part in this event she said, “I must admit I have thought several times to give up, but then I remember the journey I took when I found a lump.
“Nearly five years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and had a full mastectomy and rebuild, and I just want to pay back in a small way, by raising money for Cancer Research, so when someone else receives a diagnosis, they have a fighting chance like I did.
“The knowledge of the staff, the care I received was top notch. It’s a scary process but they made me feel confident in them. They knew their stuff, the research they carry out really makes a difference to individuals, so that’s why I am still in the boxing match, I owe others my life.”
On an extra note, Ruth’s daughter is also joining her mother in raising much needed funds by participating in her own boxing match, so literally it will be twice the hit for the Ross household.
Ruth is totally out of her comfort zone, but she says it’s a great excuse to use muscles she never knew existed!
So, let’s get behind this amazing lady and give her the support she deserves and help in raising funds for this very worthwhile cause.
