A dedicated charity has been established to secure the widest possible individual, community and business support for the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The Shropshire Hills AONB Trust aims to inspire people and businesses to actively support the conservation and enhancement of this nationally-designated jewel in the county’s crown, securing its future as a place where wildlife, people, landscape and heritage thrive in harmony.
Complementing the work of the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership and its small staff team, the Trust’s primary role is to raise and distribute funds to support community-led projects and activities contributing to the Area’s agreed Management Plan.
As part of this, it has taken on responsibility for the AONB’s Conservation Fund, providing grants to a wide range of local groups and organisations while supporting and encouraging volunteer work.
Dr Anthony Morgan the charity’s founding chair said: “We provide a focus for the many individuals, communities and businesses within and around the Shropshire Hills who share our love of its special places and wish to contribute towards their future.
“We want to bring together as many people as we can to build on the excellent work of the AONB Partnership and the broad range of community groups, organisations and businesses who care for our wonderful countryside and its many important assets,”
