Lilleshall Hall Golf Club is a members club set in a quiet and picturesque area of rolling Shropshire countryside untroubled by traffic noise. It is a relatively flat course making for easy walking and is a favourite with visiting golfers, who come back time after time to enjoy the hospitality of a friendly club and its modern clubhouse.
The 6253-yard course sits in 165 acres of land adjacent to Lilleshall Hall and its National Sports Centre. It is characterised by fairways cutting through mature woodland and generally small, undulating greens. Conceived by the world renowned Harry S. Colt the course is one of about 300 designed and developed by this most famous of golf course architects. He was responsible for many other notable courses including Wentworth, Woodhall Spa, Sunningdale and Royal St. Georges. Since its opening in 1937, minor changes to the course have been made to ensure that it remains an enjoyable but testing round of golf. Recently, two holes have been extended to create challenging 500 yard+ par 5s. Accuracy, good course planning and a sound putting stroke are required to achieve a good score here. Played but not mastered by many well-known professionals such as Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle, Ian Woosnam and Peter Baker, no-one burns up Lilleshall Hall!
