This course is accredited by IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety & Health), and has been designed for managers and supervisors who need a recognised benchmark of health and safety competence.
It is a three day course that covers the primary health and safety management principles in a practical and sector-specific way.
Suitable for - Supervisors and managers who deal with health and safety issues as part of their general responsibilities within the healthcare sector.
Course Objectives - By the end of the training delegates will be able to:
* Understand the key legal requirements and standards to be achieved within a healthcare environment
* Understand how CQC and UK health and safety legislation requirements compare and relate to each other.
* Understand how accidents occur, how to implement simple systems to prevent them.
* Know how to conduct an accident investigation and what to record, and how to use this to reassure staff and service users.
* Know how to conduct a risk assessment, and to implement a risk assessment strategy throughout your demised area of authority.
* Identify the key hazards in the healthcare environment and the management and controls of each (e.g. manual handling, management of aggression).
* Understand environmental issues within the health care sector.
* Know how to implement simple safety systems into other business initiatives and responsibilities to enable an integrated approach to safety when planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing your systems.
Duration - Three days.
Exam Format - One hour multi format exam and risk assessment project completed within the training time.
Course Content - The programme taught in modular format will particularly focus on:
* Health & Safety Law
* CQC requirements and their link with H&S law
* Hazard identification and management
* Risk assessment
* Accident minimisation, reporting and investigation
* Key Policies and procedures required for safety management
* Asbestos and legionella hazards
* Fire safety
* Key premises issues
