• Job opportunities on offer at HGV employment event

    Training forbusiness success

Telford College will be showcasing career opportunities in the road haulage industry at a special networking event this month.

Haulage companies will be bringing some of their demonstration vehicles onto the campus on October 25, and there will be chance to find out about the college’s Sector-based Work Academy Programme for HGV training.

The event, which runs from 11am until 3.30pm, coincides with National Lorry Week, the Road Haulage Association’s annual campaign to raise awareness of career opportunities in the industry.

John Renshaw, employability business programme manager at Telford College, said: “This unique and free networking event is open to both employers and individuals.

“If you are interested in a career in the HGV industry, it’s the perfect opportunity to take a look at some of the vehicles we will have on site, and find out about how we can help you to get the qualifications you need.”

Sector based work academy courses run by Telford College range from one week to three weeks and are fully funded for those who are aged 19 plus, unemployed, or on a annual salary of less than £18,525.

For the HGV course you must also have a UK driving licence with no more than six points.

The Telford College event will focus on the three-week HGV course but staff will also be on hand to discuss other programmes including a two-week forklift programme where either a Reach or Counterbalance licence will be achieved.

John added: “The event is a chance to meet the people who keep our nation moving, find some exciting career opportunities, and get to look inside some fantastic vehicles.”
