Camille is an Enterprise Co-ordinator with the Business Growth & Investment Team at Shropshire Council.

As part of her work with the Marches Careers Hub she works with Careers Leaders in secondary schools, supporting careers and enterprise activities to help young people make their best next choice. Her role also includes engagement with businesses, employers, and other educational providers across Shropshire.

When an employer or employee engages with a school to support a careers activity, they bring a wealth of knowledge about their business sector. They also bring their own experience of the education/career path steps they themselves took, and the skills, training and expertise they have developed to do their job.

By becoming involved, these individuals can inspire young people and help to raise aspirations or challenge stereotypes around race, disability, gender or class.

Careers support covers a range of activities: from careers talks or assemblies, Mock Interviews, Speed Networking, English at Work and Maths at Work to STEM events and Careers Fairs.

Individuals can also become a careers’ ambassador for a subject, or an alumni member if they are a former pupil of a particular secondary school.

Is your sector or business struggling to recruit or retain employees? Engaging with schools is a great opportunity for employers to tap into future talent and represent their company.

Do you take on apprentices? Your apprentices may be able to share their experience with school pupils and raise awareness of your apprenticeship programme, as well as increasing their own confidence, communication and presentation skills.

Do you already offer work experience opportunities? Could you facilitate a company tour of your premises/facility, or provide a workshop for pupils to develop their employability skills? If so, please let us know of your offer so we can share this amongst our schools network.

If you are interested in representing your sector or can offer support to any of the secondary schools across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin or Hereford, Camille would love to hear from you – please contact her on This email address is being protected from spambots.
