Congratulations to R1 Constructions’ very own Jamie Swancott who has been awarded Higher Education Student of the Year at the recent Shrewsbury College Group Awards 2024.

Since joining their estimating department in June 2023, he has fitted into the team seamlessly. He is an extremely capable estimator with extensive knowledge in his field. Always willing to assist other members of the team, Jamie also ensures that he is up to date with the latest construction trends.

In a short time, Jamie has become an invaluable member of the team, and R1 is very proud of him and his achievements.

In an extremely competitive process, Jamie proved himself to be a cut above the rest in his chosen field and his award is thoroughly deserved.

David Perry of Shrewsbury Colleges Group said “Jamie attained 8 distinctions from 8 units whilst juggling an intense apprenticeship. He is an extremely well-liked student, politely spoken, thoughtful, reflective, and always ready to learn and contribute”.

Jamie said, “I am extremely grateful to all at The Shrewsbury Colleges Group for their support and guidance throughout my studies. I wouldn’t have been able to succeed without the input of numerous people throughout the campus. I was overwhelmed to receive this award amongst such a high calibre of candidates, and this is testament to the quality of teaching on offer. I am looking forward to applying my skills & building my career at R1 Construction."

As well as fitting in seamlessly within the office, Jamie has also been keen to join in with the companies numerous social events, picking up the accolade of ‘Best Dancer’ at the recent Christmas Party.

In the next stage of his development, R1 will be supporting Jamie in his further studies where he will study to become a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor.
