Pughs Funeral Directors

Founded in 1890 by Jabus Pugh, the family business has always been located in the Coleham area of Shrewsbury. Many long-established firms of funeral directors at that time trace their origins back to joiners who were frequently called upon to manufacture coffins, and who gradually extended their role.

It was Jabus Pughs son, William Robert Reginald Pugh (WRR Pugh), commonly known as ‘Billy Pugh’ (pictured) who took the family business from cabinet makers into a funeral business in the early 1900’s. Perry Pugh was born in 1928, and following his National Service joined his father in the funeral business. Billy Pugh died in 1956 leaving Perry to take over the family business at the young age of 28. Over the next 34 years, Perry built the company to become one of the most respected funeral firms in Shropshire.

WRR Pugh & Son Funeral Directors is now in its fourth generation, as Perry’s daughter Helen continues the family traditions. Today the business enjoys an enviable reputation throughout Shropshire and Mid Wales for providing professional and dignified funeral services.
