Main Job Purpose:
Responsible for driving membership growth and associated income for Shropshire Chamber of Commerce through proactive new member acquisition and sponsorship sales against existing commercial packages.
The role focuses on identifying and converting prospective businesses into engaged Chamber members, actively selling established sponsorship and advertising opportunities, and building a strong pipeline of commercial prospects.
Working closely with the Head of Commercial Success and the wider team, the post-holder will deliver against agreed revenue and membership targets, while ensuring new members are effectively onboarded into the Chamber community to support long-term retention and engagement.
This is an outward-facing, target-driven role requiring confidence, resilience, excellent organisational skills and the ability to convert opportunity into measurable growth.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
New Member Acquisition:
- Proactively identify, approach and convert prospective businesses into Chamber members.
- Conduct meetings, presentations and follow-up activity to secure new memberships.
- Promote the full portfolio of Chamber services, including events, training, policy representation and wider benefits.
Pipeline & Sales Management:
- Build, manage and maintain a structured sales pipeline using the Chamber CRM (Flightdeck)
- Track prospects, forecast income and manage follow-up activity effectively.
- Provide regular updates on pipeline performance and conversion rates.
Sponsorship & Commercial Sales:
- Actively sell and secure sponsorship, advertising and commercial packages already identified within the Chamber’s portfolio, including events, training programmes, Business Awards and digital platforms.
- Work to agreed income targets and contribute directly to financial performance.
Event & Community Engagement:
- Re-present the Chamber at networking events, exhibitions and business forums to generate leads and promote opportunities.
- Build visibility and credibility within the local business community.
Onboarding & Handover:
- Ensure new members receive a structured and professional onboarding experience
- Work closely with the membership team to ensure a smooth transition into account management and ongoing engagement.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work collaboratively across departments to support delivery of the Business Strategy Plan
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within CRM in line with internal procedures.
- Contribute to team meetings and report on performance against agreed targets.
Skills & Experience:
Key Performance Indicators:
- Delivery of agreed monthly and annual new member targets.
- Achievement of annual sponsorship and advertising income targets.
- Maintenance of an agreed prospect-to-member conversion rate.
- Delivery of defined weekly sales activity levels (calls, meetings, follow-ups).
- Completion of structured onboarding for 100% of new members within agreed timescales.
- Accurate and compliant CRM data management.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven B2B sales or business development experience.
- Demonstrate track record of achieving or exceeding revenue or growth targets.
- Experience managing a structured sales pipeline and using CRM systems effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with confidence engaging senior decision makers.
- Comfortable representing an organisation at networking events and business forums.
- Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience within a membership organisation, professional services or events environment.
- Knowledge of the Shropshire or West Midlands business community.
- Experience selling sponsorship, advertising or event-based packages.

Additional Information:
Tasks are not limited to those outlined above. The post-holder will be required to undertake additional duties within their capability as required by business needs. The role may evolve in line with organisational priorities. Appropriate training and support will be provided where necessary. The post-holder is expected to adhere to all company policies and procedures and contribute to maintaining the Chamber’s accreditation standards.
