Head of International Trade
Shernel is the Head of International Trade for DIT Shropshire with over 12 years’ experience working for the Department for International Trade delivering a tailor-made, professional mentoring service to businesses, assisting them in developing and implementing a successful international action plan.
Shernel’s passion for international business led her to pursue a Master’s in law in international trade; knowledge which she now applies to her role to the benefit of her clients. Shernel has several years of experience working with a variety of businesses, from small exporters, to larger corporations. She assists them in creating a targeted approach to exporting, to achieve growth and development in overseas markets.
She enjoys her role and assisting companies to grow their exports. Shernel has a passion for the food and drink sector and has been the sector lead for DIT West Midlands since 2008. In this role she has created a programme of activities including organising and hosting inward ‘meet the buyer’ events as well as leading overseas missions to USA, Japan, UAE, and Europe.

International Trade Advisor
Norman has worked in technical sales and project/account development with responsibility for sales growth and delivery through the management of distribution networks and direct sales.
He has worked in the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa and the Asia Pacific, where he was based in Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
Following extensive background in after sales and technical support, both in the UK and overseas, he went on to build over 20 years’ high level sales experience dealing with satellite communications, to the oil & gas and cash processing Industry.
Experience in dealing with turn-key and capital equipment sales to government and private sectors, working with clients to deliver to their specification and requirements.
As you can see he enjoys travel and the challenge of working overseas, so his experience is now put to good use by assisting Shropshire companies achieve their goals to grow their business overseas.

International Trade Advisor
Gail joined Shropshire Chamber of Commerce in September 2014 following the birth of her 2nd child looking for a new challenge and change of pace.
Prior to joining us Gail had been a Communications Operator for 12 years at West Mercia Police dealing with 999 calls and co-ordinating the deployment of Police Officers and Police Staff, liaising with other emergency services and agencies. Where Teamwork, flexibility and multitasking were essential skills.
She also previously worked for Telewest Communications (now Virgin Media) within their Network Operations centre co-ordinating UK wide engineer response for high level faults that she and other staff were unable to fix remotely. She also looked after key corporate clients and was liaison between the Network Operations Centre and Telewest’s Directors updating them on major faults often waking them in the middle of the night. She holds numerous Marconi and Nortel telecoms and data training certificates.
Prior to this she held similar roles within British Gas and was the Functions administrator for 11th Viscount Cobham at Hagley Hall hosting a wide range of events from Weddings, Charity events, Product launches and a state dinner for 30 foreign office dignitaries.

Food & Drink Cluster Advisor – Marches LEP
David has over 15 years’ experience of working in the Food Industry, exporting to the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, EU, Latin America, Cayman and the Caribbean Islands. He has also worked closely with international retail supermarket chains, distributors, and FMCG companies Government contracts and within the Private Sector, as well as exhibiting at International food shows.
Previously working in export food sales, David had the responsibility of working with SMB’s, large Enterprises, and manufacturers, assisting companies to grow their exports, develop and maintain strategies for growth in those sectors with both branded and private label food products.
Having recently joined the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, David looks forward to putting to good use his experience and knowledge by working with and supporting the Shropshire and Herefordshire local partners to help identify global opportunities.

Strategic Partnership Manager.
His role is to work with three Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP’s)– The Marches, Worcestershire and The Stoke/ Staffordshire LEP’s – with the aim to promote international trade support for local businesses in these areas.
To achieve this he will be working with the LEP’s, and the Chambers of Commerce, to embed international trade support into the plans and objectives of the region, with a view to seeing more businesses take up the support on offer from the Department of International Trade.
Having previously worked, within the Department for International Trade, as an Export Academy Advisor, where he assisted new to export businesses, John has knowledge of the nature and type of support required from businesses looking to export for the first time. He is also well placed, as part of the wider Department Of International Trade wider network, to ensure that local businesses are signposted to the support available from local International Trade Advisors and the wider overseas network.
Before joining the “DIT Team” John worked for several high street Banks for over 30 years. As a Business/ Commercial Relationship Manager he worked directly with businesses assisting them with their service needs, which included International Trade – putting in place funding packages required to facilitate overseas trade. This knowledge has been beneficial since he joined to DIT Team
