Shrewsbury College are offering several new Apprenticeships from September, responding to growing local demand for practical, career-focused training for young people.

These include the newly launched ‘Foundation 8-month apprenticeship’, which are designed for students aged 16+ and blend classroom learning with real workplace experience. These include pathway options covering key local industry sectors such as engineering, construction, health and digital.

For employers, Foundation Apprenticeships offer a low-risk, cost-effective, short/impactful training model to develop young talent tailored to their workforce needs. Benefits include:

In addition, Shrewsbury College are also launching these exciting new Apprenticeships, varying from Level 3- Level 4;

  • Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician (MOET) (Level 3)– Train to maintain and optimise engineering systems across manufacturing and industrial settings, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • IT Solutions Technician (Level 3) – Gaining expertise in installing, maintaining, and supporting IT systems, perfect for businesses seeking to build in-house tech capabilities.
  • Construction Support Technician (Level 3)– Learning to assist in project management, health and safety, procurement, and documentation across construction projects.
  • Chef de Partie (Level 3) – Developing culinary skills in a fast-paced kitchen environment, managing specific sections and contributing to high-quality food preparation and service.
  • Design and Build Technician (Level 4) – Supporting design and construction of built environment projects by developing practical skills in planning, technical drawing, and site coordination.

Grants and Funding Support Available

Employers may be eligible for government funding to cover up to 100% of apprenticeship training costs, depending on company size. Additional support is available through the Apprenticeship Recruitment team at Shrewsbury College, who offer free advertising, shortlisting, and interview support.

N.B. For construction-related apprenticeships, CITB grants of up to £8500 may be available to help offset training and wage costs.

In addition, we have over 2,000 students who are completing their qualifications this year, in over 100 courses in everything from A Levels, through to vocational and T Level programmes, that can be accessed as a talent pipeline to fill your staffing needs.

These 8-month programmes are designed for students aged 16+ and blend classroom learning with real workplace experience. Shrewsbury College plans to launch pathway options covering key local industry sectors such as engineering, construction, and digital.

For employers, Foundation Apprenticeships offer a low-risk, cost-effective way to develop young talent tailored to their workforce needs. Benefits include:

  • Early access to motivated learners
  • Custom skills training aligned with business needs
  • A strong pipeline for future progression
  • Grants of up to £2000 are available to an employer looking to recruit a foundation apprenticeship, with a £666 additional payment for enrolling your apprentice onto a progression route once the foundation apprenticeship is completed.
