On Friday 10 October, Shrewsbury College had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Julia Buckley to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), where the college’s DFN Project SEARCH Supported Internship programme is proudly delivered.

The visit focused on the continued development of the Supported Internship course and explored the real challenges faced by young people with additional learning needs as they transition into employment. Discussions also highlighted the transformative impact that Supported Internships can have — opening doors to independence, confidence, and sustainable careers.

During her visit, Dr. Buckley spent time engaging with several of our Interns, showing genuine warmth, kindness, and interest in their personal journeys. Dr. Buckley joined the group in a seed-planting activity, representing how, with the right nurturing and support, young people can grow and flourish both personally and professionally.

Shrewsbury College’s Supported Internship programme is more than just a course with work experience — it represents a deep commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and building brighter futures for young people with additional needs.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Dr. Buckley for her time, encouragement, and dedication to making a difference within the Shrewsbury community.
