A Shropshire school is helping its pupils prepare for future careers with practical business and networking skills.
Oswestry School called in Ruth Martin of Martin & Jones Marketing, to lead a day of workshops in networking and using business social media platform LinkedIn.
The Networking Skills Training Day for its final year pupils was part of Oswestry School’s Futures Fortnight and was funded by the Old Oswestrian Society.
Members of the Upper Sixth were then able to put their training into practise this week in a networking event with members of the local business community and the school’s alumni.
Anna Evans, Oswestry School’s Development and Fundraising Manager, said the training day with Ruth had given the pupils a dynamic boost in planning their future careers.
“From confident introductions to meaningful professional conversations, our pupils embraced the training and gained new skills which were later put to the test at a networking event at the school.
"We are especially pleased that over 20 volunteers from the local business community and the school's alumni community gave up their time to chat and network with pupils. Events such as these showcase the practical skills that our community can provide for our younger generation,” she said.
Ruth Martin, who is based in Oswestry, added that the day had given her a real insight into the need for practical training in business skills.
“These are business skills that are needed in every walk of life. Oswestry School must be congratulated for recognising the need to prepare their students with business and networking knowledge for the future alongside their academic studies,” she said.
