Shropshire Chamber of Commerce will once again be tackling the county’s famous Dragon Boat Race this summer to raise cash for charity.

The team, will be among a host of colourful competitors taking to the River Severn in Shrewsbury on July 20 to race on the section of the river between the Kingsland bridge and the Pengwern Boat Club.

A record-breaking 45 boats are set to tackle the challenge this year. The event has been running for two decades and has become one of the county’s biggest charity fundraisers.

Membership advisor Owen Fyfield said: “We’re not only paddling for the thrill of the race; we’re paddling to raise funds for Severn Hospice - a charity that offers invaluable care to those when cure is no longer an option.

“Our heroic team of Barbies, Kens - and an Allan too - will be donning a tapestry of personalities to act as a beacon of hope and compassion in our efforts to race the river, raise awareness and funds for such a heroic cause.

“Come along to the banks of the Severn to shout and support for all of the daring souls who will be channeling their inner Kenergy and being the best Barbie versions of themselves.

“It’s a brilliant event, and we’re looking to raise hundreds of pounds for a fantastic local cause.”

The Dragon Boat Race is spread over two days this year, with racing going on from 8am to 4pm on both July 20 and 21.
