Lingen Davies Cancer Support in Shrewsbury has been presented with more than £4,000 from fundraising activities at this year’s Shropshire Chamber Business Awards.
The Chamber chooses a different local charity each year to benefit from fundraising on the night of its black tie awards presentation.
More than 650 people attended this summer’s celebration at Telford International Centre, generously supporting activities including a champagne raffle and ‘heads and tails’ game.
Shropshire Chamber chief executive Ruth Ross visited the Lingen Davies team in Shrewsbury to officially hand over the money.
Lingen Davies has launched its £5 million Sunflower Appeal to grow cancer care across the region through the creation of a base in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital which is due to be up and running by 2029.
Combined with existing chemotherapy services in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, it will double capacity across our region, meaning patients can access the treatment they need, where they need, more quickly.
Ruth Ross said: “Our awards night is one of the highlights of the Shropshire business calendar, and it’s really important for us to use it as an opportunity to give back.”
“Lingen Davies is a much‑loved organisation in our region, and the Sunflower Appeal is a powerful reminder of how collective action can create lasting impact. We are proud to play our part.
“We’d like to thank to all attendees, sponsors, and supporters who contributed to this year’s fundraising total. Their generosity ensures that the spirit of the business awards night continues long after the trophies have been handed out.”
Lingen Davies said: “The generosity in the room was incredible, and we're so grateful to everyone who took part in our champagne raffle, participated in the charity game and made a donation.
“This is an incredible total which will make a huge difference for those in our community affected by cancer.”
