Shropshire Business magazine is celebrating a golden anniversary in March – the publication of its landmark 50th edition.

The award-winning magazine was launched in autumn 2016 to provide news, views and analysis for the local business community, compiled by a team of journalists with decades of experience in Shropshire.

In the very first edition, it said: “There’s something utterly beguiling about Shropshire; the people, the places, and the wonderfully supportive business networking community.

“But don’t ever mistake its picture-postcard beauty and the sometimes easy-going demeanour of its people, for complacency, or a lack of driving ambition.

“Because Shropshire is home to some of the UK’s most dynamic, innovative, creative, and internationally successful companies – driven by a breed of remarkable people, who are achieving incredible things.”

All of that remains completely true, in the view of founding directors Carl Jones and Henry Carpenter.

They say: “Our motivation for launching the magazine was the fact that we felt Shropshire was too often being relegated to little more than a post-script in the achievements of the wider West Midlands region. It rarely received the headline-grabbing attention it deserved in regional and national business publications, in our opinion.

“From manufacturing to money management, food and drink to farming, technology to training – and many more places in between, we like to think we’ve turned the spotlight onto the topics that really matter to you; the things you’re talking about in your own boardrooms.”

In its latest edition, published on March 1, it will be taking a look back at some of its big stories and interviews over the years – as well as publishing a 12-page special report on cyber security, a spotlight on apprenticeships, and a picture special from the launch of the Shropshire Chamber Business Awards.

And on the subject of awards . . . Shropshire Business is also planning to produce a 100-page souvenir glossy magazine to mark 25 years of the Shropshire Business Awards.
