Aico, based in Oswestry, is the European market leader in home life safety. Their headquarters on Maesbury Road hosts an impressive range of facilities, from an on-site gym and relaxation room to an outdoor trim trail and vegetable patches.

Beyond the amenities provided for Aico colleagues, the company also supports the educational growth of its community. Aico’s work experience programme offers students a broad overview of the different career paths available, while also providing practical experience and opportunities to learn new skills.

Students from North Shropshire College and Newcastle Under Lyme College were hosted by Aico in April, spending valuable time in their Product Development, Operations, Marketing, CSR and IT departments.

“I was really nervous when I came, but everyone’s really nice here and it’s just opened more opportunities for what I might do after school,” Lewys Williams commented.

Aico’s Community Liaisons, Jane Pritchard and Laura Opechowska, lead the work experience programmes and state that they “really try to inspire young people to think about their futures and where they want to go. We aim to improve confidence and build vital employability skills.”

In addition to work experience, Aico also offers a range of apprenticeships, allowing colleagues to enhance their learning while in employment. In February, Finance Clerk James Defty, completed his AAT Level 3 and Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship with a merit, followed by Finance Clerk Harry Bower, who also passed his AAT exam and commented: “My apprenticeship has provided me with a strong foundation in general accounting principles and practices, equipping me with the key qualities necessary to perform effectively in my role at Aico. Through hands-on experience and continuous learning, I have developed a solid understanding of financial processes. The apprenticeship has not only enhanced my financial skills but also improved my communication and problem-solving abilities - both of which are essential for contributing to a successful finance team.”

Aico are proud to support their colleagues in their professional development and allow young talent a stepping stone into the world of work.
