Over the years Ridgway Rentals have maintained a fleet of trucks, these are always out delivering plant machinery around the country for the Shropshire based plant hire business. The latest truck to be purchased is a Scania 500R Super and marks an important milestone in this haulage journey that started in 2003 when Ridgway Rentals purchased their first Scania.

22 years ago Ridgway Rentals made the decision to take the plant hire buisiness to the next level by delivering their own machinery nationwide. The company invested in a Scania T-cab truck which received a one of a kind paint job featuring a Union Jack that covered the entire bodywork. The truck was named Bully the Bull Nose and travelled up and down the country delivering machines to customers from the top of Scotland to Cornwall. For a time this was Ridgway’s only lorry and was responsible for nationwide machine delivery for 5 years until the haulage fleet was expanded in 2008. In 2018, after a million miles and 4 engines, Bully was eventually retired, but she’s still kept on site as a reminder of the beginnings of the plant haulage journey.

The infamous Bully the bull nose Scania T-cab was the pride of our haulage fleet and was capable of hauling 50 ton excavators across the country with her 470 horse power engine. Ridgway Rentals have now owned Bully for over 22 years, in her life she travelled more than a million miles around Britain, between 2003 and 2018 it’s very likely that you would have seen Bully sailing past on the opposite side of the road, in your rear view mirror, or more likely stuck behind her as she carefully navigated country roads.

By the time Bully had past a million miles and was on her 4th engine it became increasingly obvious that she would need to be retired from service. Too sad to see her leave, it was decided to keep her in the workshop with the intention of restoring her for shows and other glamourous jobs.

After a long period of running Volvos and Renaults, Ridgway Rentals has returned to Scania for their latest truck. This represents a significant milestone in Ridgway’s haulage journey. In that time thousands of machines have been delivered around the country. Everything from 1 ton mini diggers to 50 ton excavators, dozers, dump trucks and telehandlers from the North of Scotland to Lizard Point in Cornwall.

The new Scania 500R Super has a 500hp engine, coupled with a 3 axle Faymonville trailer will carry anything up to our 30 ton machines. It is one of the very few trucks designed in a wind tunnel.

Transport manager, Dan Smart said 'Scania are pushing boundaries in fuel consumption and this new 500R will save us in the long run'.

Director, Rob Jones, also commented 'The initial cost of a Scania will quickly be paid back with reduced fuel costs and Scania's record with reliability, not to mention the resale value. It's also good to see a Scania back on the haulage fleet after 22 years'.
