iconsys Finance Director, Karen McLellan, recently attended the Ada Lovelace Day Breakfast Reception at the House of Commons, an event focused on tackling one of manufacturing’s most pressing challenges: the underrepresentation of women in the sector.

Supported by Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) and the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) and sponsored by Jodie Gosling MP, the event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and educators to explore how collaboration can attract more women and girls into manufacturing and engineering careers.

With women currently representing only 26% of the UK’s manufacturing workforce, achieving the Government’s ‘35 by 35’ target could unlock an estimated £6 billion boost to the UK economy, a clear demonstration of the value of greater gender diversity.

Karen found the session highly insightful, engaging in discussions that celebrated the many positive initiatives already underway across the UK and challenged outdated perceptions of modern manufacturing.
