The latest study of 128 business leaders from UK personalised workwear provider MyWorkwear reveals a huge call for the NIC and working rights changes introduced earlier this year to be reversed.
The report revealed that a staggering 84% of businesses surveyed said that they would like to see the recent increase in NIC and working rights reversed in the next budget.
The results revealed that 66% of businesses said the NIC and minimum wage increases introduced earlier this year have had a negative impact on their business, this follows 72% of businesses expressing concern about the potential negative impact ahead of the change when surveyed by MyWorkwear back in February.
Concerningly, almost half of businesses (47%) said that they are worried their business would struggle to survive the next five years, a 3% increase compared to the MyWorkwear Economic Report conducted in February 2025.
James Worthington, Co-Owner at MyWorkwear said of the survey, “As a workwear provider, we have our finger on the pulse of how businesses in a vast variety of industries are fairing and this year has been incredibly challenging for the majority of them.”
He continued, “our data shows that when business leaders looked back to the Autumn Statement last year, 46% said they’d seen an improvement in their business fortunes but unfortunately the majority (54%) said things had either not changed or worsened. This is concerning for us as we continue to support our customers to ensure they’re offered the best support with their branded workwear.”
The report did show some positives for the supplier with branded workwear being voted the least likely internal cost businesses were having to reduce compared to staff training which was voted the most likely. It also showed that branded workwear was the second most popular brand awareness tool being utilised by businesses, second only to digital marketing.
Tellingly, the vast majority (75%) of businesses said that they would vote for someone other than the current government if there was a snap election. This was despite there being an equal split as to whether business leaders were pleased with Labour’s approach to business so far.
