Shropshire brewer Hobsons hosted its first-ever Women’s Brew Day on Tuesday 10th February, as 20 women took over the brewhouse to create a special cask beer in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Six female members of the Hobsons team, all from office-based roles, led the concept, naming and design of the beer, titled Six Sirens. Keen to spotlight the role of women in brewing, they opened the event up to the wider community, inviting others to step into the brewhouse and take part in the hands-on brewing process while raising awareness of the growing presence of women in the industry.

“It was a fantastic day of real hands-on brewing — everyone got properly involved, from mashing in to learning about the hops and the science behind it all,” said Kate Pearce, Commercial Director at Hobsons. “Bringing women together in the brewhouse like this was incredibly special. There was such a great atmosphere, and it’s exactly the kind of initiative that helps open up the industry and show that brewing is for everyone.”

This year’s release is a small-batch, 14-barrel brew featuring Amarillo, Godiva and Boadicea hops. Six Sirens has been designed as a bright, blonde 4% beer with vibrant orange citrus notes — crafted to be both refreshing and expressive of the collaborative spirit behind it. Just 50 casks will be available from late February, perfectly timed to appear on bars ahead of International Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March 2026.

As part of the initiative, Hobsons is supporting the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, which is raising money for a new cancer treatment centre in Telford. A portion of proceeds from Six Sirens will contribute to the appeal. Hop supplier Charles Faram has kindly donated the hops for the charity brew.

Sarah Starkey from Commonwood Farm, who attended the day, said: “It was so interesting to discover how to make beer, to meet the team and to be part of such a great project. I loved learning about everything, from the history of malt to the variety of hops used. I can’t wait to taste the results.”

To mark the beer’s release, Hobsons will host a celebratory event at the Tap Room on Friday 13th March, featuring tastings of Six Sirens, street food pairings, and a talk from writer and beer communicator Laura Hadland.
