Marches Academy Trust Launch Paid Teaching Internship Programme for Summer 2026
The Alliance of Leading Learning, part of the Marches Academy Trust, has announced that it will host a three week paid teaching internship in June and July 2026, delivered in partnership with the Department for Education (DfE).
Designed to inspire the next generation of teachers and school leaders, the programme offers university students the chance to explore the teaching profession first hand while gaining invaluable classroom experience.
The internship is open to students currently in their second, third or final year of an undergraduate degree, as well as those studying for a Master’s degree. The Trust is encouraging anyone who knows a potential future teacher to share this opportunity with them.
A First-Hand Introduction to Teaching
The Paid Internship Programme provides a realistic insight into life in the classroom - ideal for those considering teaching but wanting to experience the profession before fully committing.
Interns will be supported throughout by experienced mentors, receiving daily feedback and guidance to help build confidence and essential teaching skills.
Participants who complete the programme will receive:
- £1,365 payment
- First-hand experience of classroom practice, lesson planning and professional expectations
- One to one support from outstanding teachers and subject specialists
- Insight into wider school life beyond the classroom
- Personalised support with Initial Teacher Training (ITT) applications
- Interview preparation and career guidance
A Structured Three-Week Programme
The internship is designed to immerse participants in the rhythm and reality of school life, with each week focusing on a core theme:
Week 1 – Introduction to Teaching & Observation
Key outcome: Developing awareness of teaching and learning
Week 2 – Co planning & Supporting Learning
Key outcome: Engaging in lesson planning and introductory teaching responsibilities
Week 3 – Microteaching & Career Pathways
Key outcome: Practising teaching and exploring routes into Initial Teacher Training
Placement Schools Across Shropshire
Internships will take place within the Marches Academy Trust at:
- Sir John Talbot’s School, Whitchurch
- The Marches School, Oswestry
- Idsall School, Shifnal
Participants can apply to specialise in one of the following subject areas:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Computing
- Chemistry
- Design & Technology
- Languages
