Salop Leisure has donated £300 to Shrewsbury & Oswestry Crucial Crew, helping to support the long-running safety awareness event for local children.
Taking place from June 1st – 12th 2026, Shrewsbury & Oswestry Crucial Crew will welcome around 1,500 Year 6 pupils from across Shrewsbury, Oswestry and surrounding villages. The annual event delivers vital life skills education as young people prepare to transition to secondary school, covering topics such as personal safety, emergency planning, online awareness, health and wellbeing, and environmental responsibility.
Now in its 32nd year, Crucial Crew has reached more than 36,800 children since it began, evolving into a highly respected local initiative supported by partner agencies including the Police and Crime Commissioner, Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service, RNLI and Shropshire Council. In 2025, the event was recognised with the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service, highlighting its lasting impact on the community.
The event also relies on the dedication of over 100 volunteers each year, who help guide and support children through interactive scenarios designed to build confidence and awareness in real-life situations.
Ed Glover, Head of Marketing at Salop Leisure, said, “Salop Leisure is proud to continue to support such a great local charity and event, which provides vital work safeguarding and protecting local children across Shropshire.”
Originally held at Nesscliffe Military Training Centre, the event moved to Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings in 2024, continuing to provide a safe and engaging environment for learning. Its importance remains as strong as ever, helping young people gain the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate new challenges safely.
Geof Proffitt, deputy chairman and fundraiser of Shrewsbury & Oswestry Crucial Crew, said, “We are grateful to everyone at Salop Leisure for their most generous and constant support.”
Shrewsbury & Oswestry Crucial Crew continues to welcome support from local businesses and volunteers, ensuring it can deliver its essential work for future generations.
