A vital service helping people across Shropshire stay independent, confident and connected is at the heart of a new fundraising appeal.

Community Resource is inviting local people, groups and businesses to come together to help fund hearing loss support across Shropshire. For many older residents, this support is a lifeline that helps them stay connected and avoid isolation.

The Hearing Loss Support Service provides practical help for people who use NHS hearing aids, including maintenance, repairs and advice through local community hubs and home visits. For many, it is the difference between staying engaged with the world around them and becoming increasingly isolated.

In the past year alone, the service delivered 144 hearing hubs across 13 locations, supported 1,512 appointments and carried out 872 home visits for people unable to travel. This work was made possible through 741 hours of volunteer support.

Community Resource is now asking the community to play a role in sustaining and growing the service. A dedicated JustGiving page has been launched with an initial target of £10,000, alongside opportunities for local fundraising, business partnerships and grant support.

People can get involved by organising a local fundraiser, taking on a challenge, making a donation or choosing the service as a charity partner. Every contribution will help ensure people across Shropshire can continue to access the help they need, close to home

This is high-demand, preventative support that helps people maintain independence while reducing pressure on GP, audiology and wider health and care services.

A family member of someone supported by the service said:

"My father, aged 91, visited the support hub at Ludlow Library and had his hearing aid repaired straight away. Without that support, he would have really struggled. The volunteers were so supportive, and it made such a difference to him."

The service is delivered in partnership with SaTH Audiology and reaches people in communities across Shropshire.

Bev Baxter, CEO at Community Resource, said:
"For many people, particularly older residents, this support is essential. It helps people remain independent, connected and confident in their daily lives. We are inviting our community to be part of keeping this vital service available for everyone who needs it."

Hanna Clarke, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Community Resource, added:
"There are many ways people can get involved, from making a donation to organising a fundraiser or partnering with us as a business. Every contribution will help ensure people across Shropshire can continue to access this important support."
