People living with hearing loss in Telford and Wrekin will once again be able to access practical hearing aid support close to home when the Hearing Loss Support Hub at the Independent Living Centre (ILC) reopens on Wednesday 12 August 2026.
The Hearing Loss Support Hub is delivered by Community Resource and takes place on the second Wednesday of every month from 10am to 12 noon by appointment, offering practical support and advice to NHS hearing aid users across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
The service is delivered by volunteers trained by the NHS Audiology Service. Many are hearing aid users themselves and understand first-hand the challenges that can come with hearing loss.
Visitors can access support with:
- NHS hearing aid tube changing
- battery collection
- advice on hearing aid care and maintenance
- hearing loss support and guidance
Hearing loss can make everyday activities more challenging and may leave people feeling less confident or isolated. The support hub helps people continue using their hearing aids effectively, enabling them to stay connected to family, friends and their local community.
The impact of the service is felt by people and families across the county. One family member said:
"My father, aged 91, visited the support hub at Ludlow Library and had his hearing aid repaired straight away. Without that help, he would have really struggled. The volunteers were so supportive, and it made such a difference to him."
Susann Mitchell, Development Officer: Sight and Hearing Loss Support at Community Resource commented:
"For many people, hearing aids are essential for maintaining independence and staying connected to the people and activities that matter most. Our volunteers provide practical support, reassurance and understanding, helping people get the best from their hearing aids close to home.
"We are really pleased to be reopening the Hearing Loss Support Hub at the Independent Living Centre and look forward to welcoming local people who may benefit from the service."
The reopening forms part of Community Resource's wider hearing loss support service, which reaches communities across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. Over the past year, the service:
- delivered 144 hearing loss hubs across 13 locations
- supported 1,512 appointments
- carried out 872 home visits
- provided 741 hours of volunteer support
Community Resource is appealing for support to help secure the long-term future of its hearing loss support service across Shropshire. By supporting the appeal, local people, community groups and businesses can help ensure vital hearing loss support remains available for those who rely on it now and in the future.
