Shropshire’s West Mid Showground has launched new business partnerships to support the site and the agricultural charity.

The showground, situated alongside the River Severn in Shrewsbury, has welcomed generations of visitors and remains an important venue for agricultural, cultural, community and charitable events.

It is operated by the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society, a charity which has spent more than 150 years promoting agriculture, supporting rural communities and bringing people together.

The new partnerships give businesses an opportunity to help protect the future of the showground and support the Society’s wider charitable work while promoting their own organisations to visitors from Shropshire and beyond.

The site is also the home of the annual Shropshire County Show, formerly the West Mid Show, which welcomes thousands of visitors every year.

Agriculture remains firmly at the heart of the event, with livestock and equine competitions, rural demonstrations, food producers, agricultural organisations, countryside groups and hundreds of trade stands.

The West Mid Showground also welcomes thousands of people throughout the rest of the year for events including Shrewsbury Folk Festival and Shrewsbury Half Marathon, as well as camping and caravanning rallies, charity events and community activities.

CEO Ian Bebbington said: The Society’s impact reaches far beyond the showground itself. Funds generated through our rural charity shops are reinvested into Shropshire’s rural communities, with 38 organisations and projects receiving rural grants from the agricultural society over the last three years.

“The grants have supported charitable, educational, wellbeing and community projects across rural Shropshire, helping to fund Young Farmers, Shropshire Rural Support, rural Scout groups, community transport, village facilities, emergency-response equipment, public-access improvements and educational activities.”

Neale Sadler, Chair of Trustees at the Society, said: “The West Mid Showground has been bringing people together for generations, but maintaining and developing a site of this size requires continued investment.

“It is home to our flagship Shropshire County Show, but the Society also provides direct support to rural communities through its grant programme, helping organisations deliver projects which make a practical difference to people’s lives.

“We have created these new partnerships to give businesses the opportunity to support the showground itself, the Society and the work that it does within the community.”

The partnership opportunities include a Heritage and Community Partner, a Biodiversity Partner, building sponsorship, business board sponsorship and picnic bench sponsorships.

Other options include year-round business advertising boards in prominent areas of the showground and picnic bench sponsorship.

Mr Sadler added: “We want these to be genuine partnerships rather than simply sponsorship transactions.

“Businesses can raise their profile, reach different audiences, reward their employees and demonstrate their commitment to Shropshire while helping us preserve a much-loved venue and continue supporting rural communities.

“There are opportunities for organisations of different sizes and with different priorities, and we would be delighted to talk to businesses about the partnership that would work best for them.”
