It began as a retirement hobby for a former university lecturer and magistrate to turn her love of gardens into a small business.

Now family run Shropshire coach tour firm Wisteria Tours is celebrating a decade of providing trips for thousands of people to stately homes, royal residences and English gardens around the UK.

It started as the idea of Jacky Crick back in 2006 – who wanted to visit gardens with her friends. The idea grew into successful business called Gardeners’ Delight.

Then in 2016, alongside her daughters Jackie and Sue Burnell, Wisteria Tours was born.

For a decade the Shrewsbury based business has built a reputation for providing a personal touch and detailed planning as they look to put on memorable trips for their customers.

Their success and growth were highlighted last year by the decision to branch out into Europe – owing to the demand from their loyal customers.

The trio were able to celebrate their decade milestone on a recent four-day trip to Eastbourne, where an impromptu drinks reception was held to mark the special occasion.

It was a chance to toast ten years of success and look back on how far the family-owned business has come.

“It is amazing to think this all began with an idea from our Mum and her love of gardens, which was 20 years ago now,” explained Jacky.

“Then we all created Wisteria ten years ago, and things have just continued to grow and grow, and we’re so proud of what the business is today.

“It was a lovely way to celebrate our tenth anniversary – and really fitting it was on such a beautiful trip, alongside people who make Wisteria what it is.

“What pleases us the most is the joy that these trips bring to our customers. We pride ourselves on having a personal touch with them, to make sure they thoroughly enjoy their experiences with Wisteria.

“Over the years we have developed many loyal customers who keep coming back, and that is so satisfying. It shows what we offer is valued and we have built up such a lovely relationship with many of them.

“It was a special moment in Eastbourne to be able to celebrate the milestone with our loyal customers in such a beautiful setting.”

The trip, which coincided with the anniversary, involved a four-night stay at the Hydro Hotel, along with walks on the sea front and a visit to Sarah Raven’s Garden on Perch Hill.

As has been the case with many other Wisteria trips, those who made the journey were left satisfied with the service and attention to detail provided by Jacky and Sue.

That type of feedback is a running theme when it comes to the hundreds of trips Wisteria have provided across the UK and Europe over the last decade.

Customers call it the ‘Wisteria way’, and Jacky has given an indication of how much planning goes into the various tours, to make sure they offer something different to other coach tour providers.

“We’ve always tried to make sure it is a very welcoming and warm environment, because that is what you want from the beginning of a trip, right through to the end,” explained Jacky.

“We want everyone to feel they are being catered, and to do that we do put in the planning and make sure everything is right.

“When we start organising a tour it can take almost two years from thinking about it to booking it, because we really work on our attention to detail.

“We go out and see the whole thing because if we are going to take people there, we need to make sure everything is right and we’re providing the best service possible.

“That is what we will keep doing.”
