Telford College is working in partnership with local data and AI analytics company Purple Frog to launch new degree-level training units on Artificial Intelligence.
The Government has launched a range of short, flexible Level 5 units that employers can access through the Growth and Skills Levy.
They're designed for people already in work who want to develop specific skills without committing to a full apprenticeship. Each unit is around 30 hours of learning delivered over a few weeks, and is funded at £750 per learner.
Beckie Bosworth, Telford College’s director of employer engagement and partnerships, says: “There are many different units available across multiple sectors under this programme, but we are planning to start with AI Leadership - AI Strategy and Opportunity because of the level of interest we're seeing from employers.
“Before we launch it, though, we are seeking feedback from local employers to help us shape the programme and ensure it meets their workforce development needs.
“Our plan is to launch this level five programme in November, and we’re keen to hear from as many employers as possible, to help us understand their preferred delivery arrangements.”

Telford College is also helping employers to recruit fresh talent, bridge skills gaps and develop the next generation of workers with a new-look package of apprenticeship incentives.
With up to £6,000 of financial support available, the college’s Business Solutions team is encouraging organisations of all sizes to take advantage of new funding streams that make hiring apprentices more accessible and cost‑effective than ever.
For many employers, these incentives could be the catalyst for expanding teams, investing in future skills, or supporting young people into meaningful long‑term careers.
There is currently a £1,000 hiring incentive available to all employers who recruit apprentices aged 16-18, or those aged 19-24 with an education, health and care plan or care‑leaver status.
SMEs can also benefit from an additional £2,000 incentive when hiring new apprentices aged 16-24 – a significant contribution towards onboarding and training costs at a time when many smaller businesses are working hard to grow sustainably.
There is further support for employers who recruit young people facing barriers to work. Companies hiring candidates aged 18–24 who have claimed Universal Credit for more than six months may be eligible for a Youth Jobs Grant of up to £3,000, helping businesses open doors for those who need it most while strengthening their own talent pipelines.
But the financial incentives are only part of the picture. Telford College’s apprenticeship offer is built around a comprehensive support model that makes the process straightforward, flexible and genuinely aligned to employer needs.
Beckie Bosworth says: “We currently have some fantastic candidates in our talent pool who are actively looking for apprenticeship opportunities.
“Financial incentives for employers are significant., For example, Construction businesses can access CITB grants for apprentices, and benefit from no National Insurance contributions for eligible candidates.
“Businesses partnered with us benefit from dedicated employer support, recruitment and candidate matching, expert guidance throughout the apprenticeship journey, and training delivery shaped around real‑world industry requirements.”
The college also provides a wider suite of business services – from online learning and bespoke training programmes to consultancy, industry placements, employer hubs and room hire – ensuring organisations can access the right support at every stage of their development.
Beckie adds: “For employers looking to boost productivity, address skills shortages or invest in long‑term workforce development, these new incentives represent a timely opportunity.
“Apprenticeships remain one of the most effective ways to recruit motivated talent, upskill existing staff and build a resilient future‑ready team.”
