Maureen is a patient of Rachel Kili, a physiotherapist at Rachel Kili Physiotherapy. Maureen has Parkinson’s disease and, sadly, is starting to experience frequent falls.
She describes Rachel as her lifeline. Although her prognosis is grim, Maureen still has so much living she wants to do. Together, Rachel and Maureen have been working gently, consistently and practically on balance, strength and mobility. This has helped Maureen feel confident enough to continue walking her dog, driving to the shops and climbing the stairs to her bedroom.
Maureen volunteered to speak to Clare Ashford from Radio Shropshire. She wanted to go on air to express her genuine gratitude to Rachel. Maureen knows her disease is progressive and that her health will deteriorate. However, she told Clare that Rachel has enabled her to remain independent and feel useful, giving her the direction and support she needs to help her body do what it needs to, for as long as possible.
Maureen went on to say that none of this would have been possible if she hadn’t met Rachel. Rachel was deeply moved by Maureen’s words and by the effort she had made to express her gratitude. Maintaining people’s sense of self is central to Rachel’s approach to supporting the patients who attend her clinic and movement classes.
Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease are just one aspect of Rachel’s work. She can also help with muscle and joint pain, fatigue and pelvic floor issues.
