A Shropshire manufacturer is celebrating a significant engineering achievement after successfully completing independent crash testing for its latest highway safety barrier.

Elite Precast Concrete, based in Telford, has announced that its innovative ConBarr-TVCB® Vehicle Restraint Barrier has successfully met the stringent requirements of BS EN 1317, the European Standard for road restraint systems.

The successful testing marks another important milestone for the company as it continues to invest in product innovation, manufacturing excellence and road safety.

BS EN 1317 sets out the performance requirements and test methods for vehicle restraint systems used across Europe's highway networks, ensuring barriers are independently assessed for vehicle containment, occupant safety and impact performance.

The successful testing demonstrates that ConBarr-TVCB® (Temporary Vertical Concrete Barrier) meets the rigorous standards required by the highways industry, providing contractors, local authorities and infrastructure clients with a robust solution for both temporary and permanent traffic management applications.

Designed and manufactured at Elite Precast Concrete's Shropshire production facility, the ConBarr-TVCB® combines the durability and resilience of precast concrete with rapid installation, making it ideal for motorway schemes, trunk roads, utility works, urban infrastructure projects and major construction sites throughout the UK.

The achievement further strengthens Elite's growing portfolio of highway safety products, complementing its established range of Jersey barriers, Jersey-Lite® barriers, security barriers and bespoke precast concrete infrastructure solutions.

Richard Doody, Commercial Director at Elite Precast Concrete, said: "Successfully achieving EN 1317 testing represents a major investment in both product development and customer confidence. Highways clients increasingly require independently tested, fully compliant vehicle restraint systems, and the ConBarr-TVCB® has been developed specifically to meet those demands.”

"This certification gives contractors and asset owners complete confidence that they are installing a barrier that has been proven under recognised European testing criteria whilst also benefiting from the quality, reliability and service that Elite Precast is known for."

The ConBarr-TVCB® has been engineered to provide a practical solution for projects requiring rapid deployment, minimal maintenance and long-term durability.

Manufactured from high-strength precast concrete, the barriers offer excellent resistance to impact, weathering and repeated site use, making them a cost-effective solution throughout their operational life.

Owen Batham, Sales and Marketing Director, added: "The successful testing of the ConBarr-TVCB® demonstrates Elite's commitment to innovation and engineering excellence. We are proud to design and manufacture our products here in Shropshire, supporting UK infrastructure projects with high-quality, British-made precast concrete solutions.

"This latest achievement reinforces our position as one of the UK's leading manufacturers of precast concrete safety and infrastructure products while showcasing the engineering expertise that exists within our region."

Elite Precast Concrete manufactures a wide range of precast concrete products from its Telford facility, supplying customers throughout the UK across the highways, construction, infrastructure, rail, utilities, renewable energy, agriculture and environmental sectors.
