Veenow Vineyard has officially made history for the West Midlands wine industry, becoming the first-ever Shropshire vineyard to have a rosé wine selected for the prestigious WineGB Golden 50 list, alongside winning a coveted Gold Medal at the London Wine Competition.
The WineGB Golden 50 represents the absolute pinnacle of British winemaking, curated by an elite panel of independent experts to showcase the top 50 finest wines in the country. While Shropshire vineyards have previously gained international recognition for still reds and white varieties, this historic double-win marks the first time a Shropshire rosé has ever broken through to claim both a Gold medal and a definitive spot on the national Golden 50 roster.
Produced from grapes grown on Shropshire’s unique terroir, the winning Mary Rosé 2024 impressed judges with its fresh strawberry and citrus aromas, crunchy red fruit, lively acidity, and a clean, well-structured finish with a light body.
Katie Greenow, Owner of Veenow Vineyard commented: "We are absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud to bring these accolades home to Shropshire. Rob and I have poured our hearts into perfecting our rosé, knowing that our local soil and climate could produce something truly world-class. To be recognised not just with a Gold medal, but to be named one of WineGB’s Golden 50—representing the very best of British winemaking—is a dream come true and a massive win for Shropshire viticulture."
This milestone victory firmly establishes Shropshire as an exciting, front-running region within the rapidly growing UK wine industry, proving that the county’s vineyards can compete at the highest national level against traditional powerhouse wine regions.
The award-winning rosé is available for purchase directly from the vineyard’s cellar door and online at www.veenow.co.uk. Due to the historic nature of this award, stock is expected to sell out quickly.
