Lifesaving charity to benefit from seasonal Treecycling

Residents across Shropshire are being urged to ‘Treecycle’ their real Christmas - and give a much-needed boost to a life-saving local charity.

Veolia will give a donation to Midlands Air Ambulance for every Christmas tree that is recycled either at the kerbside or through one of the county’s five Household Recycling Centres.

As part of Veolia’s commitment to the environment, the trees are turned into compost at the company’s facility just outside Shifnal.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity covers six counties, including Shropshire and has an airbase at RAF Cosford. It provides critical advanced pre-hospital emergency care through specially trained medics.

Steve Mitchell, Veolia Director (West) said: “We are delighted to be supporting a charity which helps to save so many lives each year.

“Don’t forget that you can put your real tree into your green bin - just make sure it’s been cut to fit inside, if necessary. Alternatively, you can bring it to one of the five Household Recycling Centres that we operate in Shropshire.”

Pam Hodgetts from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said:  “Sadly, our charity has not escaped the effects of the pandemic as we are facing a significant drop in fundraising income this year. We are truly grateful to Veolia for their support, and this is a terrific way to responsibly dispose of your Christmas tree and will also help generate much-needed funds to support our vitally-important lifesaving missions in your area.”

Veolia, the world’s largest environmental services company, provides kerbside recycling and waste collection services across Shropshire as well as running the county’s Household Recycling Centres in Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Craven Arms, Bridgnorth and Whitchurch.
