Shropshire’s not for profit savings and loans cooperative is searching for a ‘trainee’ Board volunteer.
Karen Farrow Just Credit Union’s Chief Officer said “As a credit union Just is owned by its members and managed for their mutual benefit. Our volunteer Board plays a vital role in overseeing its running and strategic development. Whilst we have an experienced Board, we have this year decided to create a Board member development role. The role would suit an individual with an interest in financial inclusion who wants to gain Board level experience and develop their strategic management and planning skills.”
Just Credit Union promotes financial inclusion and provides secure savings and ethical loans, whilst also improving the financial wellbeing of its members. What members save with it is what it lends to local people and the interest paid funds the running of the credit union thereby supporting the local community and economy.
Karen said “The role will be fully supported and offer opportunities for training and development. The key requirements are a passion about what we do and sharing our ethos and values. No previous Board experience is necessary, and we would be very happy to arrange an informal chat. We are also regularly on the look out for more experienced Board members who may be interested in supporting the credit union. The Board meets on the third Wednesday each month at 5pm, and meetings usually last between 1 and 1.5 hours. Meetings are currently held remotely and will move to one meeting each quarterly in Shrewsbury. We also hold an annual Board ‘strategic away day.”
