“I am pleased to see the progress being made to bring these Local Skills Improvement Plans to life.
“We remain committed to the LSIP model as part of our Plan for Change, and have strengthened the role that Mayors and Strategic Authorities will play in identifying and addressing the local skills issues in the plans.
“Skills England will work hand-in-hand with businesses, education providers, Mayors and Strategic Authorities, unions, and other bodies to tackle skills shortages, co- creating solutions to ensure more opportunities for young people and existing workers wherever they are based in the country.”
The Minister for Skills, The Rt Hon Baroness Smith of Malvern
"At Shrewsbury College, we are proud to be at the heart of Shropshire’s response to the Government’s Skills Agenda. We know that meaningful progress starts with listening — understanding the real challenges and evolving needs of our local employers. By working collaboratively, not only do we shape training that’s fit for purpose, but we also empower employers to influence policy, ensuring that national strategies reflect the realities of our regional economy. Together, we’re committed building a workforce that’s skilled, agile, and ready for the future."

The Marches LSIP: Aligning Workforce Skills with Employer Needs
The Marches Local Skills Improvement Plan, known as LSIP, is a UK Government funded project directed by Skills England, with 39 LSIP projects covering the entirety of England. LSIP has one purpose, to put businesses at the heart of the skills agenda. This is all based on the Skills for Jobs White Paper released January 2021.
Starting in 2022 and working to 2028 the LSIPs project is designed to explore emerging skills needs as sectors evolve, automate, look to increase productivity and work to net zero, as well as current skills needs alongside recruitment and retention.
Also, to help employers upskill their current staff to support business productivity, thus growing the economy for all. Sharing the employer research with a wide variety of key providers involved in Post 16 education, as well as Local authorities and many other bodies that are involved in decision making.

The LSIP team works closely with both the private and public sectors to bring them closer together, inviting employers to shape course, articulate needs, highlight changing needs directly to the point of delivery and to support all parties to understand the constraints they individually face.
The LSIP project is being carried out by employer facing organisations (in the Marches - Shropshire Chamber of Commerce) under the watchful eye of Skills England. The Marches covers Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
