Following the recent scenes of violent disorder in some parts of the country, Shropshire Fire Rescue Service is providing advice on how to keep your business safe.

They are working with our police partners and other agencies to plan and respond to any potential disorder here in Shropshire.

There are steps you can take to protect your premises from fire:

  • Carry out/review your fire risk assessment: By doing this you will be able to identify and minimise any potential hazards.
  • Ensure fire detection systems are operating effectively: Carry out regular tests and have defects fixed so they are in working order.
  • Ensure escape routes are clear: This allows people to evacuate quickly in the event of a fire.
  • Remove waste, particularly cardboard: These items can be highly flammable and can be used as fuel to set fires, especially if stored outside your premises.
  • Store outdoor bins securely: Ensure that any wheelie bins are stored in a secure area where they cannot be tampered with.
  • Ensure all staff know what to do in the event of a fire: Refresh your fire safety training and test your evacuation procedures.
