A trailblazing Shropshire businesswoman who earned national recognition for her mid-life career shift from healthcare to education will be sharing her story at Shropshire Chamber of Commerce's next Network of Women event.

Sarah Davies will be guest speaker at the event, which is is being held on February 25 from 11am to 2pm at the Park House Hotel in Shifnal.

Sarah, the executive director of partnerships and employer engagement at Telford College, will share her journey from being a single mum to becoming a midwife, and her transition to further education where she is now a member of the executive leadership team.

She said: “My journey has taken many paths – and I’ve had four children along the way – so it definitely hasn’t been straightforward. I am extremely proud to have achieved such a high-profile position in a challenging and competitive environment.

“It was having my own babies that made me want to be a midwife. Now, I want to pass those skills on to the next generation. Students love a real-life story – it makes you more credible. There’s a given respect when you’ve been in industry yourself.

“I’ve always wanted to make a difference – for me that’s what it’s always been about. Moving into further education was huge as the students are relying on you, but if you can change one person’s life then it’s worth it.

“Plus, it makes you feel really proud that you can help future-proof the industry – it’s a privilege to share your skills with young people.”

She added: “Having a leadership role now gives me greater influence at a more strategic level, and the chance to work closely with universities, employers and other partners.”

Shropshire Chamber’s events and training co-ordinator Suzanne Thorne said: “Our Network of Women events are all about creating a relaxed group where women can connect and forge mutually-beneficial relationships.

“The meetings buzz with energy offering the perfect chance to meet new people, gain fresh insights and elevate your business.”

Suzanne said there was a professional yet friendly atmosphere and women from all types of businesses in Shropshire were welcome. “Delegates also have the opportunity to share their successes and knowledge with the group, followed by a networking buffet lunch.”
