Shropshire Chamber of Commerce is offering a free employment rights compliance review to its members following the introduction of major new legislation.

The most significant changes to employment law in a generation have come into force this year through the new Employment Rights Act.

It affects core areas of employment practice including statutory sick pay, paternity leave, whistleblowing protections, holiday pay record‑keeping, and the increasing risks associated with tribunal claims.

To support businesses through this period of change, Shropshire Chamber is offering a structured, expert-led ERA Compliance Review at no cost to members.

The review helps employers understand what has changed, assess whether their contracts, handbooks and policies remain compliant, and identify any gaps or risks that may expose them to legal challenge.

It also offers clarity on future reforms such as the reduction of the unfair dismissal qualifying period, strengthened trade union access, new rules for zero-hours workers, and forthcoming obligations around sexual harassment prevention.

Shropshire Chamber chief executive Ruth Ross said the changes marked a pivotal moment for employers and required early preparation rather than reactive fixes.

“While the intention behind the legislation is to improve fairness and job quality, the practical implications for businesses, particularly SMEs, are substantial,” she said.

“We are encouraging our members to use the free review to gain confidence in their compliance and avoid the financial and operational risks associated with getting it wrong.”

The ERA Compliance Review is delivered online by a team of employment law specialists as part of the Chamber HR service, and can be booked quickly through an online system.

Members can choose a time that suits them and flag any specific concerns in advance, ensuring the session is tailored to their needs.

Shropshire Chamber says it will continue working with its HR partners Quest and the British Chambers of Commerce to provide ongoing guidance, resources and updates as further legislation is introduced.
