Three employees at a Wolverhampton-based not-for-profit became Hiking Heroes after climbing Yr Wyddfa (Mt. Snowdon) and raising a collective £800 for two local charities.
On 2nd June, Amelia Painting, Clare Jarvis, and Sally Bromley of Paycare all completed the Snowdon by Sunrise challenge, with donations exceeding their original target of £250 each for Wolves Foundation and Compton Care.
Sally Bromley, Partnerships Manager at Paycare, said: “Climbing Snowdon has long been an ambition, so when the opportunity came up to join the challenge, I was determined to give it a go. I did the climb along with my amazing colleagues and knowing we were raising funds for two fabulous charities was all the inspiration we needed. The glorious sunrise views made the difficult ascent in the middle of the night all worth it, and we’re thrilled to have raised such a fantastic amount.”
They started the three-hour hike up Yr Wyddfa (Mt. Snowdon) along the Llanberis path at 1:45am, reached the summit in time for the sunrise at 4:55am, before returning to enjoy a celebratory glass of bubbly.
Clare Jarvis, who has been employed at the Health Cash Plan provider for 38 years, added: “It was a lot harder than I thought, but I believe it means more if it takes you out of your comfort zone. I climbed it a long time ago and remember thinking I wish I’d done it for charity, so when this opportunity came along, I jumped on it. Compton Care does so much for the city and anyone who has ever had dealings with them knows what incredible work they do. As for Wolves Foundation, having worked for Paycare for almost 40 years, I understand just how far reaching and impactful their support is across our local communities.”
The funds, split equally, will help to provide vital support. A £15 donation to Wolves Foundation enables it to offer 1-to-1 mentoring to help manage a young person’s behaviour and guide them on the right path, while a £23 donation helps to fund a Compton Care Bereavement Support session for a grieving loved one.
Laura Cahill, Fundraising and Events Executive at Wolves Foundation, explained: “We are so grateful for the support of the Paycare team who took part in our Snowdon by Sunrise challenge. Paycare has been a strong champion of our Foundation for over 25 years and was our very first Pack Patron. It’s great to see them continuing to back the club’s official charity at our first ever ‘Hiking Heroes’ event in collaboration with Compton Care. The funds raised by their amazing efforts will be split equally between our two charities and for us specifically, will support projects that will directly impact our communities across Wolverhampton.”
