Eaton Manor, near Church Stretton, marked its 25th anniversary year in style by hosting a successful Open Gardens event on Sunday 10 May as part of the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust Gardens Open Scheme, raising over £2,500 for local heritage.
Blessed with beautiful weather, the event attracted a steady flow of visitors who enjoyed exploring the grounds, visiting the historic St Edith’s Church, and relaxing with afternoon teas. The day ran smoothly thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, who played a vital role in welcoming guests and creating a warm, community-focused atmosphere.
A highlight for many visitors was St Edith’s Church at Eaton-under-Heywood, a Grade I listed building. The church was adorned with striking floral displays created by Dorrington Young Farmers and Rushbury & Cardington Young Farmers, enhancing its historic beauty and providing a memorable focal point for the event.
Guests were also given the opportunity to experience Eaton Manor’s Poetry Trail, which winds through the scenic grounds and is usually reserved for holiday guests. The trail proved a popular addition, offering a unique and reflective way to enjoy the countryside.
The event raised just over £2,500, with proceeds shared between the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust and St Edith’s Church. These funds will contribute to the ongoing conservation of the historic building, helping to preserve it for future generations.
As Eaton Manor celebrates 25 years, the team is keen to continue supporting community and charitable initiatives. The venue welcomes collaboration with charities and organisations interested in hosting fundraising events, with access to its grounds, Poetry Trail and dedicated events facilities.
This milestone year highlights Eaton Manor’s ongoing commitment not only to hospitality but also to supporting local heritage and community causes across Shropshire.
