A family-run holiday park on the Shropshire and Powys border has unveiled five brand-new lakeside pitches which are available to buy, responding to growing demand for peaceful UK staycations.

Foggy Bottom Holiday Home Park, based near Churchstoke and Montgomery, was granted permission to expand its offering with five premium pitches overlooking its picturesque lake. The new plots are available for purchase, with the option to source static caravans through Salop Leisure for a full, hassle-free service.

The move comes as more holidaymakers choose to stay closer to home, seeking reliability, tranquillity and easy access to nature amid ongoing uncertainty around overseas travel.

Set within 25 acres of beautifully maintained grounds, Foggy Bottom is known for its calm, spacious layout and connection to the surrounding countryside. The park currently has 55 fully serviced pitches, each with mains services and piped gas, and is open for 11 months of the year.

Run by husband and wife Stephen and Kate Higgins alongside their son Scott, the family took over the business in 2016. With decades of experience in the caravan industry, including previous roles at Salop Leisure, the family brings a wealth of knowledge to help customers find their ideal holiday home.

The new lakeside pitches are expected to be particularly popular, offering uninterrupted views across the water and the chance to enjoy the site’s rich wildlife, which includes ducks, geese, otters and kingfishers. One resident reported spotting 57 different bird species on site.

Scott Higgins from Foggy Bottom Holiday Home Park said, “There’s been a real shift in how people want to holiday. More and more people are looking for somewhere they can truly switch off, without the stress or uncertainty that can sometimes come with travelling abroad. Foggy Bottom offers that sense of escape, right here on the border of Shropshire and Mid Wales.

“Our new lakeside pitches are something special. They make the most of the natural beauty we’re lucky to have here, from the water views to the wildlife, and they give people the chance to own a holiday home in a peaceful setting. We’re proud to keep things friendly and personal, and this expansion reflects the demand we’ve had from people wanting to be part of that.

“There is plenty to explore nearby with the villages of Churchstoke and Montgomery offering excellent coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and shops, as well as fantastic local walks and panoramic views of the Montgomeryshire countryside.

“This year we are celebrating a decade of running Foggy Bottom, so it’s great to celebrate the milestone with an expansion of our pitches.”

Foggy Bottom prides itself on offering a quiet retreat, with well-spaced pitches, manicured lawns, colourful planting and a welcoming atmosphere. Facilities include a two-acre dog exercise field and dog wash, making it ideal for pet owners, plus on-site laundry facilities and a pool table, while nearby towns and villages offer independent shops, eateries, and scenic walking routes.

The park’s previous owners gave Foggy Bottom its unusual name, which it shares with a historic neighbourhood in Washington, D.C, and, much to the delight of Scott’s children, it's also a location in the children’s animated series, Paw Patrol.
