Telford‑based insulation specialist Seymour Manufacturing International (SMI) has funded the installation of two new memorial benches in the town, paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the UK’s servicemen and women.
The benches - one at Randlay and another outside SMI’s headquarters at Stafford Park - carry the timeless message ‘Lest We Forget’ and an inscription that recognises the growth of SMI under chairman Brian Seymour, and his continued commitment to the local community.
The gesture reflects SMI’s long‑standing commitment to supporting local causes and recognising the contribution of those who serve.
The company said the benches were commissioned both as a mark of remembrance and as a tribute to the values of integrity, service and community leadership embodied by Mr Seymour, who founded the business more than 40 years ago.
SMI managing director Jill Seymour said: “These benches are a small but meaningful way of honouring the courage of our Armed Forces, past and present.
“We also wanted to recognise Brian’s unwavering dedication to our family company and our community. It feels fitting that his name sits alongside a message of remembrance that resonates with so many families in Telford.”
The benches, which were made by the British Ironwork Centre in Oswestry, are now available for public use and reflection, offering a quiet space for residents to pause, remember and pay their respects.
Councillor Sheenagh Unwin, who chairs Hollinswood & Randlay Parish Council, said: “We are very grateful to Mr and Mrs Seymour and SMI for their wonderful support for our project.
“The provision of a Remembrance Bench, close to our dedicated bus shelter, was a lovely idea – the additional bench sited near to their premises in Stafford Park was an extra special contribution, for which we are truly grateful.”
She added: “The contributions from SMI have enabled the parish council to enhance its project to brighten areas within our parish and to provide seating for local residents.
“We were fortunate to be able to engage the services of the British Ironwork Centre, who created two Remembrance Benches with a lovely red poppy.”
